   Proposal Description:
   The long term goal of this pilot work is to increase the number of                Hispanic/Latino persons with dementia who participate in brain donation (BD) at   the ADRCs nationally. To achieve this goal requires greater understanding of      barriers and incentives to these behaviors. There is a paucity of research        focusing on these issues in Latinos. With Latinos there are added language and    cultural issues to consider for many older Latinos, English is not their first    language or they may be monolingual in Spanish. Low levels of health literacy,    lack of familiarity with health practices, resources and with organ donation in   general pose additional barriers to participation.                                Aim 1: gather information about existing rates of BD in the ADRCs nationally      identify barriers and incentives to donation and factors associated with          success survey local Latino care providers and families to determine values,      attitudes and beliefs in this region and conduct focus groups to fine-tune        action plans.                                                                     Aim 2: develop culturally appropriate materials, strategies, and research         procedures to facilitate Latino BD.                                               Aim 3: disseminate these materials and recommendations to the ADRC network and    implement them at this ADRC.                                                      Aim 4: develop RO1 or similar federal grant proposal to secure funds to           document their effectiveness.
